The founders and principals of Advocate Healthcare were the same team of founders and managers who created Merrimack Health Group—a franchise of Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Independent Living facilities plus an institutional pharmacy located across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Merrimack Health Group's humble origins began with one small facility in Marblehead, Mass.—but grew in only 10 short years to 14 highly respected facilities. Merrimack Health Group was heralded as a major success story, a top-quality provider of services, and a noteworthy competitor to existing healthcare management companies operating throughout the state—until its sale in 2014.
